These Are the Most Dangerous States for Cyclists

US News

Excerpt of story by Kaia Hubbard, U.S. News & World Report, May 12, 2021

U.S. News & World Report shared the high-level takeaways of StreetLight Data’s Bike Safety Shift eBook, which identifies the 10 most dangerous states for cyclists by the metric of crashes per bicycle miles traveled (BMT).

“The coronavirus pandemic prompted a ‘bicycle renaissance’ in the U.S., as bike activity outpaced previous years in 2020.”

U.S. News contributor Kaia Hubbard juxtaposed StreetLight’s list with a Smart Growth America ranking of states with the highest bicyclist fatalities per capita. The article also shares StreetLight’s report measuring fall 2020’s bicycle renaissance, which found a dip in autumn bike ridership following a 26% YOY peak in June 2020.
